Darren Byrd, a Pensacola Florida native, was drafted in the 18th round by the Philadelphia Phillies out of Pine Forest High School in 2005. For six years Darren pitched for the Phillies organization before being signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as a minor league free agent in 2010. During his three year tenure Darren successfully transitioned into a set-up/closer role, earning a Major League invite to spring training in 2013 before being traded to the Oakland A’s. In his one season with Oakland he played for their AAA affiliate the Sacramento River cats.
Following his ten-year professional career, Darren’s passion has become helping young baseball players hone and develop their talents. During Darren’s off-seasons and during the time since his retirement he has dedicated his time to coaching and conducting private pitching lessons for kids ranging from 9-19yo. Last summer he took on the role of head coach for the USSA West Florida Baseball Academy 14u Makos; every player coached successfully made high school baseball teams the following fall.
